How to set sag on an enduro bike: Sag is the amount the suspension compresses under the rider and is the foundation of suspension setup. Proper sag balances traction, chassis geometry and available travel so the bike remains composed on climbs, in corners and through rough technical sections. You set sag when the bike is ridden with your normal kit and load—before a race, after changing tires or suspension settings, or any time you change weight or riding style. Learning to measure and adjust sag gives predictable handling, helps avoid bottoming or harshness, and makes other suspension adjustments more meaningful. Step by Step

1. Wear your riding kit

Put on the clothes, helmet and any hydration or tools you normally carry so the measured sag reflects your real riding weight.

2. Set the bike upright

Balance the bike on level ground with the front wheel straight and ensure the suspension is settled by compressing it a few times before measuring.

3. Assume neutral riding position

Sit on the bike in normal riding posture with feet on the pegs and hands on the bars, keeping weight centered and looking forward; remain relaxed but steady for the measurement.

4. Measure and calculate sag

Use a shock or fork indicator, or measure wheel-to-fender distances: note the fully extended length and the loaded length, then calculate sag as the difference expressed in millimeters or percent of travel.

5. Adjust preload and recheck

Alter spring preload (or air pressure) incrementally and repeat the measurement until sag falls within your target range, then re-seat the suspension and verify with a short ride.
